SANDSTONE

 

The Cape of Pourion (Sandstones) lays on the eastern side of the north part of the island, next to Magazia.

The sandstone that is found there is used as building material, because it is flexible and easy to work.

At the feet of the cape, you can see reefs of the same material which are called Vrikolakonisia.

Across these reefs there is a little island, Saint Ermolaos, named after the church that was built on it. The locals celebrate the saint's name day on 26th July.
Inside a huge rock of sandstone, there is a little church of Saint Nicolas, built on the 18th century.
